Count one module per single-pole breaker, two for a two-pole RCBO, and four for a three-phase RCD, then add roughly 20 percent spare for later circuits. A small annexe often fits inside a 4-way or 6-way box, while a whole house typically needs 12-way or more.

IP40 blocks solid objects above 1 mm but offers no water rating, which suits a hallway or a service cupboard indoors. IP65 adds a full dust seal plus resistance to water jets, making it the right choice for a carport, an external wall, or a pump house exposed to washdown.

Only an IP65 enclosure belongs outside, and even then it should sit out of direct afternoon sun where practical, since heat shortens the life of both the gasket and the breakers inside. A shaded north or east wall, or a small canopy above the box, keeps internal temperatures reasonable.
